CKM GRANT OPPORTUNITIES
IMPORTANT INFORMATION – Please take the time to read.
The CKM would like to thank all of our 2018-19 KINDNESS sponsors, grantor, parents, and general public for your donations and the ability to offer Kindness shirts and our annual Kindness Program to more schools this year.
We will be inviting sponsors to a few events during our Community Kindness Week. Also, CKM Sponsor logos will be printed on the back of all Kindness Shirts distributed through the CKM. If your school has additional sponsors, we ask that you provide those logos and list of sponsors to us when sending in the Kindness shirt order forms. We will send out the ordering information soon.
CKM GRANT CYCLE NOW OPEN
APPLY NOW – DEADLINE IS MONDAY, AUGUST 13th, 2018
$1000-$500 SCHOOL GRANTS: School grants means that the CKM will be providing $1000 toward your Kindness shirts purchase. Your School, PTA, PTO, or funds from Sponsors will be able to fund the remaining amount for your entire student body and faculty to have a Kindness shirt. This is a grant for Kindness shirts (no cash grants)
$100-$150 TEACHER/CLASSROOM GRANTS: Classroom grants means that the CKM will be funding up to 22-33 students (entire classroom) with Kindness shirts, which needs to also include a teacher shirt. If you classroom exceeds this, please let us know the amount of students you will have. Teachers will need to apply for this grant individually on our website. When filling out the application and submitting it, we are asking that you implement our annual Kindness Program in your classroom for the 2018-2019 school year. This is a grant for Kindness shirts (no cash grants)
HOW TO APPLY and REQUIREMENTS: ALL SCHOOLS SELECTED WILL BE ASKED TO IMPLEMENT OUR ANNUAL KINDNESS PROGRAM which will be included and FREE. Online access will be giving September 1st. We will also send out a few surveys and opportunities to share pictures. We would like for your school or teacher to report back on their Kindness Week in SEPTEMBER and an a year-end-review in APRIL.

WHAT ARE THE COSTS: When applying for the CKM Grants, your school or teachers is committing to fund or gather the remaining funds needed to supply your entire school or classroom with Kindness shirts. Kindness shirts would need to be ordered for each student. Faculty is highly recommended to also wear the shirts to lead as examples. The cost starts at $4.50 per shirt and plus sizes are extra. Please reference the attached Kindness shirt order forms to figure the exact costs for your schools.

In the past we have seen PTA/PTO organizations help fund our program for all the students and/or faculty, or have the schools provide the funds for the faculty. Or we have a sponsor letter available to find your own business sponsors or a flyer to send out to parents to fundraise the remaining funds. Please contact if you need these forms.

CKM TIMELINE:
GRANT/APPLICATION DEADLINE – AUGUST 13th, 2018
ANNOUNCE SCHOOLS AWARDED – AUGUST 15th, 2018
ORDERING INFORMATION will be sent not later than AUGUST 17th, 2018.
KINDNESS Shirts Forms will be filled out by each teacher for their own classroom. The teachers will need to turn in their order forms into the office and your school will need consolidate all orders to ONE MASTER COPY. One Master Copy for each YELLOW and BLACK shirt orders (if it applies). Some school choose to order all yellow, but if your faculty would like to be in black that is an option. Remember that Yellow shirts are always for the students. Black is available for the faculty. Please keep the copy of the individual teacher orders for your records to distribute once you receive the order (week before Kindness Week). We we will send out more instruction on this. WE ONLY NEED THE MASTER COPIES. These will need to be emailed to us: DEADLINE: AUGUST 27TH, 2018.
ENHANCED 2018 KINDNESS SHIRT DESIGN
The CKM has decided to make a change to the 2018 Kindness Shirt.
Many have expressed how much they LOVE the Idaho design. We do too! We really loved the 2017 design, but still felt like we needed to do something different to still make it feel like a NEW DESIGN for 2018. The students LOVE to get a new design each year. Our Directors have voted and we hope you all like the enhancement.
HAPPY HOT SUMMER!
The CKM has been busy working on updating our Kindness Program and will have it available at www.TheCKM.org, by September 1st, 2018. It will be available HERE to all schools that have signed up on our website.
With 2018-19 School Year right around the corner. We ask that ALL SCHOOLS interested in participating, fill out our CKM ONLINE APPLICATION . The deadline is AUGUST 10th, 2018.
HOW IT ALL WORKS
The CKM is a non-profit organization. We provide schools our annual Kindness Program AT COST. By supporting the CKM and purchasing Kindness Shirts for your school or students, you are also supporting another wonderful non-profit printing company, whom offer employment for disabled residents in the Pocatello, Idaho community. Our Kindness Shirts are $4.50 per student. Faculty shirts start at the same price, there is an extra cost to plus sizes. The price includes sales tax and shipping. With your school bulk purchase of our Kindness shirts for your students, staff, classroom, etc., we grant you school online access to our annual Kindness Program for FREE. All school would need to fill out our online application to get started. The information is below.
WEST ADA SCHOOL DISTRICT SCHOOLS
For the 2018-19 School year, the CKM is thrilled to be partnering with the City of Meridian and the West Ada School District in proclaiming the first official COMMUNITY KINDNESS WEEK! With this partnership West Ada Schools will be given online access to our Kindness Program for FREE with or without purchase of Kindness shirts. West Ada schools would still need to fill out an online application to receive access to our program.
TEACHER/ CLASSROOM IMPLEMENTATION
Keep in mind that we do offer our program to classrooms too. If your entire school is not participating, but you’re a teacher and would like to implement our program in your classroom, we invite your to fill out the online application. You can reach out to your student’s parents to fund their own child a Kindness Shirt for $4.50. Majority of parents are happy to do this and it can build unity in your classroom. Also, mention to the parents that they will wear them to school each Thursday and the Kindness shirt can be part of their new school year attire. We have heard and seen great success with our Teacher/Classroom concept.

THANK YOU to A1 Towing for providing the truck for us to ride on. They are exceptional guys! We also appreciate all the kindness of all our parade volunteers. We had such a good time in spreading the word, that the City of Meridian will be celebrating a Community Kindness Week, this September.

CLASS DISCUSSION:
Close your eyes and imagine what our world would look like if it was all one color. What color would you choose? How long would it take until you got sick of that one color? Would you miss other colors?
Would a rainbow have the same significance? Just like a rainbow that needs contrasting and differing colors to make it beautiful, we need all different types of people to make our world beautiful. There are differences in our hair color, height, how many kids we have in our families, how we learn, our skin color, religion, interests, talents, etc. Wouldn’t it be boring if we each looked exactly the same? People need “DIVERSITY”, just like a rainbow needs color to make it beautiful.

These several weeks have been a whirlwind preparing for Idaho Gives, and we sometimes forget to stop and think about what you’ve helped us accomplish. Your support of the Community Kindness Movement has made our ANNUAL KINDNESS PROGRAM possible, and we can never forget that!

For 2018, we were given recommendations to take off the heart to make the design less feminine and more appealing to both genders. Thank you for your continued support. REMIND YOUR STUDENTS TO WEAR THEIR YELLOW KINDNESS T-SHIRTS TOMORROW
April’s theme is all about understanding the relationship of being kind to ourselves, to others, and to also extend a contribution to our surroundings and Mother Earth. By taking responsibility of our environment, we are showing KINDNESS to the Earth. KINDNESS toward nature is KINDNESS to ourselves and others as we protect the earth.
This is a great time of year where students are taking field trips. Take advantage of having the discussion of noticing the beauty around them and taking care of the environment that they will be visiting. TIP: It’s also a great time to dress your classroom in their Kindness T-Shirts to keep them safe and to keep track of them.
SCHOOL KINDNESS DISCUSSION
Showing kindness to other people is very important, but another part of being kind is also showing kindness
to our surroundings, specifically our earth. Help the kids establish an understanding of their environment and their responsibility for taking care of it. First establish what personal space is. Have the kids stand by their desk/tables and show where their space is. Talk about who should clean it. Ask them what space they share with others. Who cleans that space (restrooms, playgrounds, grocery store, churches, etc.)? Help the children to understand that we all have stewardship over our personal space and places we are responsible for. We all share the same environment and therefore all need to take care of it and keep it clean. Ask the children of ways they think they can help take care of the earth.
• Recycling (the 3 R’s Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, see video below).
• Do not littler and pick it up when you see it
• Walk, bike or bus to work and school
• Turn off lights and electronics when not in use
• Use reusable water bottles and food containers
• Visit local Farmer’s Markets
• Plant trees and plants
• Use reusable shopping bags
• Be kind to animals
We show the earth kindness by doing these things. Explain that we start where we can and we take
excellent care of the spaces that are ours.
