Supportive Resources for Suicide Prevention

Supportive Resources for Suicide Prevention

When people find themselves dealing with problems that seem truly insurmountable, they may fixate on suicidal thoughts. Organizations like Community Kindness Movement are working to teach children to be supportive friends and neighbors, and throughout our lives, we should remember the importance of these values. If you are worried that one of your loved ones is thinking of suicide, these resources can be valuable references as you offer your support.

Risk Factors and Warning Signs

Learning about the risk factors and warning signs of suicidal thoughts in advance could help you save a life.

  1. Do you suspect that your loved one is struggling with depression? Keep an eye out for these common symptoms.
  2. If your loved one has experienced a traumatic event, learn to identify the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder.
  3. People harboring suicidal thoughts may display certain telltale signs, such as acting emotionally indifferent or exhibiting sudden changes in behavior.

Getting Help

If you suspect that your loved one has suicide on their mind, these resources will help you direct them to the help they need.

  1. Concerned about your loved one? Gently start a conversation to inquire about their mental health.
  2. Your loved one may qualify for mental health services covered by Medicare.

For immediate assistance, direct your loved ones towards hotlines where they can speak to professionals.

  1. If your loved one has trouble making ends meet but wants to participate in online therapy, consider paying for an internet plan so you know they can talk to someone who can help.

The Path to Healing

Healing is a long process – but life can get better. These suggestions can help your loved one begin to build a life they love.

  1. Cook these easy, nutritious meals with your loved one – these dishes are packed with ingredients to boost brain health.
  2. Exercising is a fantastic way to fight depression. Offer to work out with your loved one!
  3. Overall, creating a reliable daily routine can help your loved one get out of a rut and find balance

It can be hard to bring up sensitive topics like mental health and suicide with your loved ones. But sometimes, these conversations can be the reason someone decides to turn their life around. If you want to show your loved one that you care, you can begin with the information in these guides.

We wanted to recongize these individuals and videos were shared of us surprising them each day on our Facebook and Instragram social sites. Thank you for being such great citizens. Every act of kindness makes a difference in someone’s life.

We would also like to thank Governor Brad Little for inviting the CKM to the Governor’s Office this past Friday to get our picture taken with him and our Community Kindness Week Proclamation. FRIENDLY FRIDAY AWARD
Award Recipient: Cypress
Nominated by: Family

Cypress works hard to be a good friend. She is always finding small ways to help close friends and even acquaintances. An example- she was at a recent birthday party where we were told to bring a stuffed animal to see the vet. She brought 2 who she cherishes. Another little girl was present and had left hers at home. Cypress volunteered to lend one of her 2 to the other girl so she could participate in the vet activity. (She did this with out any prompting from an adult and in fact I didn’t learn about it til later.) I’ve been told by her teachers of similar stories at school. She says one unique quality of herself is that she is kind and a good friend.

Friendly Friday
